Singapore · Ho Chi Minh City
Red Thread is a private matchmaking service for Singaporean men who are serious about marriage — introduced, one at a time, to Vietnamese women who want exactly the same thing.
No fee for the first conversation. Nothing is shared with anyone until you say so.
Why men come to us
Most of the men who call us are between 38 and 55. They are not lonely in a sad way — they are busy, capable and quietly frustrated that the one thing they wanted most is the one thing still outstanding.
Weeks of half-conversations that go nowhere. Matches who are still deciding whether they want marriage at all. You have a job already — you didn't need a second one with no salary at the end of it.
Not wrong things — different things. You want a wife, a home that feels lived in, and possibly children while you still have the energy for them. You've stopped apologising for wanting that.
You've seen the sites with rows of faces and a "browse now" button. It felt cheap, and it felt like the women were the product. You wanted no part of it — and neither do we.
Let's be precise
This is the part most agencies leave vague. We'd rather you know before you pick up the phone.
The process
A serious marriage is not arranged in a week. Here is exactly what happens, in order, so there are no surprises.
A call or a quiet coffee in Singapore, an hour or so. We ask what went wrong before, what you actually want at home, whether children are on the table, and what you can offer a woman who would be leaving her country for you. No cost, no obligation, and nothing goes into writing unless you decide to continue.
We build a written brief: your life, your work, your family, your faith if it matters to you, and the qualities that would genuinely make you happy. You verify your identity and marital status with us at this stage, exactly as she does on her side.
Our matchmaker in Ho Chi Minh City goes to work — through her own network of women already known to her, and through introductions from families and friends. She meets candidates in person. You are not searching; someone is searching for you.
When there is someone right, you receive her introduction privately: who she is, her work, her family, her marriage history, what she is looking for, her photographs — and our honest reasoning for why we think she suits you, including anything that might not. You may say no without explaining yourself.
Two or three video calls with an interpreter present if needed. If you both want to continue, we plan your trip to Ho Chi Minh City — where to stay, where to take her, an interpreter for the days you want one, and, when it's right, the meeting with her parents that in Vietnam matters more than anything you'll do alone.
Most men underestimate this part, so we stay. Practical language help, what her family will expect of you, how the registration of the marriage works in Vietnam or in Singapore, and what applying for a Long-Term Visit Pass to bring her here actually involves and how long it takes. We are matchmakers, not immigration agents — but you will not be working it out alone at midnight on a government website.
Who you'll meet
The women we introduce are typically 28 to 42. Most have never been married. Some are divorced, a few have a child, and they say so on the first call rather than the fifth. They come to our matchmaker the way women have always found matchmakers — through a cousin, a colleague, a friend whose marriage worked out.
District 7. Eldest of three, supports her mother. Wants one or two children and a husband who is home for dinner.
Divorced, no children. Owns her apartment outright. Says she is looking for steadiness, not rescue.
Catholic, practising. Close to her parents in Bình Dương and open to living abroad if the family is comfortable with the man.
One daughter, age nine. Straightforward about wanting a partner who will treat the child as his own, or not at all.
These are illustrations of the kind of women in our care, not real profiles. We do not publish anyone. Real introductions are sent to one man, privately, with her knowledge and permission — and never to a mailing list.
The honest version: a Vietnamese woman considering marriage to a foreigner is weighing up leaving her parents, her language and everything familiar. She is not doing that for a nicer flat. She is doing it because she has decided a particular man is worth it. Our matchmaker's entire job is telling the difference between a woman who means that and a woman who doesn't — and the second kind never reaches you.
Screening
You are being asked to trust a stranger's judgement with your marriage. That only works if the checking is real, and if it runs in both directions.
We turn men away. Usually because the timeline is fantasy, occasionally because of how a man speaks about women when he thinks it doesn't count. We would rather lose the fee than introduce him to someone we have promised to look after.
How we work
We don't publish a price list, because we don't quote one before we've met you. What we can tell you is how the money works, so nothing about it surprises you later.
The first conversation is free. An hour, no obligation, and no figure is discussed until we both think there is something worth doing. If we don't believe we can help, we'll say so and there's nothing to pay.
You'll have the full cost in writing before you commit to anything. One engagement, agreed up front — not a meter running in the background, not a charge each time we introduce someone, and no commission on your wedding.
Third-party costs stay yours and are never marked up. Your flights, your hotels, government fees, translation and notarisation — you pay those at cost, directly, and we'll tell you roughly what to budget before you book.
Straight answers
Usually in the second half of the call, once they've decided we're not what they feared.
No, and the difference is structural rather than cosmetic. There is no catalogue to browse and no list you can buy access to. The women are not paying to be advertised to whoever turns up — they are clients of a matchmaker who has met them, knows their families and turns down more of them than she accepts. She chooses whether to be introduced to you, sees your profile before you see anything of hers beyond a name, and can end it at any point without a reason. If that arrangement doesn't appeal to you, we're genuinely the wrong service.
Usually not, and we won't pretend otherwise. An age gap of five to twelve years is ordinary and accepted in Vietnam, particularly where the man is established. What matters far more is energy, health, and whether you both want the same things on the same timeline — a 45-year-old man who wants children and a 33-year-old woman who wants them soon are far better matched than two 38-year-olds who disagree about it. We do decline gaps that make the family uncomfortable, because a marriage her parents resent starts with a handicap.
No. Many of the women we work with have workable English, and we interpret for the rest. But we'll be honest: the men whose marriages settle fastest are the ones who learned a few hundred words in the first year. Her mother will not speak English, and the day you greet her in Vietnamese is the day you stop being a foreigner in that house. We can arrange lessons on either side.
Plan on nine to eighteen months from first consultation to marriage, and treat anyone promising faster with suspicion. The search itself typically takes six to twelve weeks before the first introduction. Then video calls, two or three trips to Vietnam, and the family's blessing. The paperwork afterwards adds several more months.
In outline: you register the marriage — in Vietnam, or in Singapore if she can travel here — and then apply to bring her to Singapore on a Long-Term Visit Pass, which is assessed by ICA against your income, your housing and the marriage itself. It is not automatic, and it is not instant. We will tell you honestly at the consultation how your situation is likely to be viewed before you spend a cent. We are matchmakers, not an immigration firm — for the filing itself we'll point you to the official ICA guidance or a licensed agent, and we never promise an outcome that isn't ours to give.
Not at all — roughly half our clients are divorced, and a good number have children living with them or seeing them on weekends. We tell her early, in plain terms, because a woman who is going to struggle with it should say so at the start rather than after you've flown twice. Plenty do not struggle with it in the slightest.
Completely private. We don't publish clients, we don't post testimonials with real names or photographs, and nothing is shared with a woman until you approve exactly what she sees. Correspondence goes wherever you tell us — a personal email, WhatsApp, or a phone call at a time that suits. Most of our clients have never mentioned us to anyone but a brother or a very close friend.
Then you tell us why, and that becomes the most useful information we have. Not liking someone is not a failure of the process — it's the process, and introductions carry on. If it becomes clear we can't find the right woman for you, we'll say so and settle it fairly rather than send you a fifth person to keep the file open.
The reasons they give us most are safety, stability and being treated well — often after watching a marriage close to them that had none of those things. Singapore's reputation in Vietnam is of a serious, orderly place where a man works, comes home and provides. That reputation is doing a lot of the work here, and a client of ours who behaves otherwise damages it for everyone. We take that seriously.
Who we are
In Chinese, the matchmaker ties a red thread between two people who are meant to find each other. In Vietnamese, it is the same thread — sợi tơ hồng, tied by the old man in the moon. Two cultures, the same idea, borrowed for the name.
Singapore
Meets you, writes your brief, and is the person you call when you're unsure. Handles the Singapore side of the marriage and pass process, and tells you the unwelcome thing rather than the comfortable one. Singapore-registered company, contactable by name and phone.
Ho Chi Minh City
A working matchmaker in Ho Chi Minh City with an established practice and community following, who has been introducing couples for years. She meets every woman herself, knows their families, and decides who is ready to be introduced and who is not. She is the reason this service exists rather than an idea about starting one.
Get in touch
Tell us how to reach you and we'll call within one working day. The first conversation is free, lasts about an hour, and exists so that both of us can decide whether this is worth continuing.
